Hola from Costa Rica

Neil and I are blessed to be writing to you from the simple, yet beautiful, Chimuri Beach Retreat on Playa Negra (Black Beach, named for the color of the sand) near Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.  We were warmly greeted at the gate by Kiana and her two dogs, Coco and Flash, on New Year’s Day and we settled in right away.

It was a dream of Neil’s that we spend a month on a tropical island, and we are pleased to be living a variation of the dream (Costa Rica is not an island, exactly, but it IS very tropical!)  We are feeling quite at home in our little cottage overlooking the Caribbean Ocean.  I read the prayer flags we hung on the porch, using them as a meditation tool to start my day. We enjoy our daily walks on the beach, which is just a few steps away.  I often sit in the hammock on our front porch while Neil works away at writing book 2 of his trilogy.  We’ve rented bikes to ride into the village every day or two to buy fresh groceries (we have a 3-burner propane stove and a fridge so we can make simple meals).

There is something very special about this tropical land… we’ve found it very easy to completely relax and be fully present and deeply grateful every day.  (Is it the land, or is it us?  Have we finally learned everything we’ve been teaching and learned to apply it in our lives?)  Tho it’s only been a few days, I’m feeling like I’ve already had an amazing holiday.  I can hardly believe how fortunate we are to still have another 23 days to spend in this beautiful country!

Lest you get too envious, it started to rain last night and hasn’t stopped yet.  It sorta feels like it’s socked in for the rest of today.  There is a reason the country is so lush and green!!  However, our first few days here were sunny and warm – I pretty much spent the days in my bikini!  Right now, Neil has gone for a run on the beach… his clothes will dry out when the sun comes out again.

I’ll be heading over to the gazebo later to dance some Nia, just for the fun of it.  I get to present two Nia workshops in that little gazebo this coming weekend… it will be such a joy to introduce Nia to Costa Ricans!

Check the blog for weekly updates… we’ll attempt to offer you something worth reading; writing to make you laugh, or cry, or simply feel good.

Until then, be well and he happy!  Buenos Dias!
